ATLANTA, Ga. (June 22, 1999) -- CARE, the international relief and development organization, will receive all proceeds and $50,000 from Emusic.com Inc. for the "CARE for Kosovo" benefit album. The album, featuring 11 leading independent rock artists such as Superchunk and Guided By Voices, is downloadable now only in the MP3 (MPEG1, Layer 3) music format from http://www.emusic.com/kosovo.
"As Kosovar refugees begin the long journey home, they will need our continued support," says LMichael Green, CARE director of marketing. "We are very grateful to Emusic.com for their generosity in donating all proceeds from the "CARE for Kosovo" MP3 album to help CARE assist those in need in the Balkans."
Produced by Act Now Productions, the "CARE for Kosovo" MP3 benefit album can be downloaded for $8.99 or $.99 per individual song.
"It is extremely gratifying to be involved in this worthwhile project -- to help support the important job that CARE and its relief teams are doing in Kosovo," says Gene Hoffman, Emusic president and CEO. "This album shows how the spirit of Indie Rock can be combined with the Internet to reach out to the world for the benefit of those who need help."
CARE is currently accepting donations for relief efforts in the Balkans. Funds will be distributed among refugee camps in Albania, Macedonia and efforts within Kosovo province as families begin to return to what is left of their homes.
