This was listed as Spaceland but on a 1995 Alien Lanes Tour itinerary (as of 2/22/95) it shows that they were to play Fuzzyland, which is a different club in LA. Fuzzyland is no longer - it is now Mr. T's Bowl.
The tour itinerary also lists the Dragonfly I believe as a separate show. It reads:
Long Beach/LA sneak - Fuzzyland, Dragonfly
So, does "sneak" mean it was a secret or unannounced gig? Was that true only for the 2nd gig at Dragonfly?
Los Angeles Times article by Lorraine Ali on April 15, 1995 mentions that GBV were to play the Troubadour at 8pm Thursday and 9pm Friday at Spaceland. So, looks like it may have been changed from Fuzzyland to Spaceland. Article link: http://articles.latimes.com/1995-04-15/entertainment/ca-54989_1_pop-beat
Info from Jim Greer: Spaceland (aka The Satellite but people still haven't gotten used to calling it that yet) hasn't changed on the outside at all but the inside is completely different from when we first played there. The current stage was where the back of the room used to be, and the current back of the room is where the stage was, except there wasn't a stage, it was just a couple of monitors on the floor.
I definitely remember that show as it was the one where my bass cabinet caught on fire, and the next day in San Diego we had to borrow one from No Doubt. My cabinet burned out at Spaceland and we left it there for dead and then the next show was the daytime festival in San Diego at UCSD followed directly by a night show (same day) at the Casbah (I think I borrowed Gaunt's gear). |
